DECEMBER 2011

With the end of 2011 rapidly approaching, it seems an ideal time to review the SY TSSC year, and what another busy one we’ve had!  Meetings have gone from strength to strength with new members coming – and more importantly, staying. Our range of Triumphs has also expanded to include a  TR4 A, a couple of TR6s, two 2.5 S Estates, a Mk 2, 2000 and a really rather rare Mk 1, 2.5 pi Estate.

The monthly quiz has been well received with everyone having a go at setting one, club funds are healthy and the two SY TSSC Kidz Klub events, during the Easter and Summer holidays, seemed to go down well.

We now keep everyone up to date, not only with our monthly newsletter, the Triumph Tribune, but we’ve also discovered the delights of blogging on the TSSC website and launched our updated SY TSSC website, www.southyorkshiretssc.yolasite.com.  Two SY TSSC cars have also been featured in the Courier and the Area Showtime feature, gave us an opportunity to share the delights of Runswick Bay with everyone

On the events front, we started the year off in January with a track day at Oulton Park and we warmed up with a delicious Spice night in February.  In March we headed down to Stoneleigh Spares day, Scarborough for some bracing sea air and supported the newly formed Hallamshire area, at their first meeting.

In April, we joined the West Yorkshire crowd at their Drive it Day at the National Railway Museum in York and enjoyed a lovely sunny Sunday at the Misson Classic car meet.  May was a particularly busy month with the now legendary North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend at Runswick Bay and a week later we joined the Hallamshire’s run to Bridlington on the east coast, to add to the 300 or so classic cars gracing the spectacular cliff top setting of Sewerby Hall. In June we enjoyed our first run to the jewel in our midst, Brodsworth Hall for the Father’s Day Classic Car event.

On to the second half of the year, we were invited to put on a display in the arena at the Doncaster Classic Car and Bike Show and enjoyed a get together at Steve n Julie’s Anniversary bash in July.  In August we headed down to Stafford to join the International Weekend, where SY TSSC scooped 3 awards, Ist Bond, 2nd GT6 and 3rd Spitfire. Later that month we returned to Brodsworth Hall for another chilled out Sunday amongst some fine classics. In September, we enjoyed our annual Club BBQ, our final camp of the year at the Providence in Yedingham,  in the North Yorkshire Moors and enjoyed an Indian meal as we bid Gareth a fond farewell as he headed off to Uni.

In October we joined the St Leger Rally to the Trolley bus Museum and the Autumn National Triumph Show at Donnington. In November we enjoyed Pie n Peas at our Bonfire Party and in December, we’ll round the year of nicely with our Christmas night out at the Crown Inn.  Phew! If you’ve not managed to make it along yet to our meetings, why not make 2012 the year you give it a shot?  – We’re a friendly, diverse group of all ages, with a wide range of knowledge and experience on Triumph cars, life in general and a determination to get out and about and enjoy life, in our cars.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, and hope you’ve all enjoyed the year as much as I have. After two years it’s time for me to hand the reigns over to someone with fresh ideas and I’m sure that whoever that is, they’ll continue to receive the support that makes SY TSSC work as well as it does.

Happy Christmas to one and all,  and here’s to a successful 2012 ....

Au Revoir

Congratulations to Al and Corinne Banks for winning this years'

Bracing sea-air and fish n chips by day, log fires and hot water bottles by night, and a hot toddy or two kept the cold at bay!

Well, we thought he'd never fly the nest, but the SY TSSC young'un Gareth has gone on to pastures' new. We managed to keep it his send off secret from him and his face was a picture as everyone piled into the restaurant to wish him
Bon Voyage. Naturally there was uproar when he said he'd try and get back for Christmas- nether the less, we'll miss him til then! Thanks to Julie for all her help organizing the do and the splendid table decorations.

By the time you read this, we'll have attended the St Leger Rally to the Trolley Bus Museum at Sandtoft and The Autumn National Triumph Show at Donnington., so I'll let you know how we get on next time.

Also please let me know asap if you are interested in sharing the cost of the minibus, which Neil Blair has very kindly offered to drive for us again this year.

    OCTOBER 2011

The weather may be on the turn, but that didn't stop the great turnout for September's meeting. The TV Theme tune quiz appeared to go down well, and congratulations to Richard and Julie who knew their Mary from their Mungo and Midge! Thanks also to everyone who took part in the vote for the People's Choice Trophy. This prestigious award goes to Al and his very nice Mark 2 GT6 , with George's Vitesse in at second place. Well done guys!

On the event front, we've hardly had time to touch base with Stafford, Brodsworth and the Club BBQ on successive weekends. SY TSSC did extremely well at the International concours with Ian and Alice collecting a well deserved first prize for their Bond, AL n Corrinne 2nd prize with their GT6 and all my hard work grinding and welding finally paid off when PJC won 3rd Spitfire!! (wot no photo?!!) Congratulations also to Julie & Adrian from the Hallamshire area for their win.

Brodsworth was a quieter affair than the Father's Day event, but still a nice selection of cars and the picnic table was nicely set off by Maggie's exclusive SY TSSC table cover! Finally the Club BBQ was a fantastic night with 35 of us enjoying a night of fine wine and dining, worked off by some rather interesting dance moves! Thanks again to Richard and Julie for all their hard work to ensure everyone had a great time.

By the time you read this, we'll have been to the Clifton Park Rally and the hardy one's will have headed off to Yedingham for a final camp (brr- not me - not likely!).

Into October, we've our meeting on Tues 4th, the St Leger Rally and run to the Trolley bus museum at Sandtoft on Sun 16th Oct, the Hallamshire meet's on Mon 17th Oct, and our Noggin n Natter on Tues 18th Oct. In November, we've our meeting on the 1st, the Bonfire Party on the 5th, our Noggin n Natter on the 15th and the Hallamshire meeting on the 21st. You are very welcome to join us

Finally we wish a Bon Voyage and Good Luck to Gareth as he heads off to University to become a teacher We'll miss you!

Thanks to Julie & Steve for inviting us all to their Pearl Anniversary Party Surely far too young to be celebrating 30 years of wedded bliss- a great night was had by all. Congratulations once again!

The Doncaster Classic Car & Bike Show, a growing annual event held by the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster and the Rotary Club and in aid of local charities, was also a great Sunday chill out. Thirteen of us in six Triumphs and an MG enjoyed fabulous weather, lots of entertainment, including a Lancaster Bomber flyover and a great selection of classic cars, bikes and commercials. We were also invited into the arena to display our cars and discuss the joys of a Triumphood. Thanks to Richard O, John, Ian, George and his friend who all joined in and didn't leave me standing alone!

I'll let you know how we get on next time.

Looking ahead we still have lot's going on with the Rotherham Vintage Rally at Clifton Park on Sun 11th Sept, the Hallamshire Meet on Mon 19th Sept and our mid monthly meeting on Tues 20th Sept.

      July 2011

With the season in full swing, SY TSSC continues to enjoy getting out and about in our cars and enjoying the Triumph scene.

The North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend at Runswick Bay near Whitby saw a great turnout, with thirty of us in 8 Triumphs, and a few moderns to hold all the camping gear! After pitching up, we had a respectable stab at the friday night quiz at the meet n greet. On the Saturday some of the crowd headed off on the run across the Moors, whilst others went into Whitby for a bit of retail therapy. Ok, hailstones were a bit of a surprise, but thankfully short lived. We met up back at the campsite for a BBQ cook off, before heading up to the marquee for the live band in the evening. Sunday morning saw the usual flurry of last minute waxing, before the cars assembled for the informal concours. Another great weekend - bring on Stafford - Remember to look out your legwarmers!

The Hallamshire run to the East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Classic Car Show at Sewerby Park nr Bridlington was another Triumph, with around 300 classic cars converging on this historic hall, nestling on it's spectacular cliff top setting. There's another one on the 28th August, so we might just pop along again.

Meetings continue to be well attended with a growing number of Triumphs now appearing in the car park with 11 at the last count! Congratulations to John n Maggie for winning the May's music quiz and Kate n Spike for all their help. John and Maggie then set their own challenge for June's meeting and well done to George who won the the day.

By the time you read this we'll also have been to the Brodsworth Hall Classic Cars for Father's Day event, so I'll let you know how we get on next time.

So what does the next couple of months hold in store for us? Well in July we've the Club meeting on Tues 5th July,

Rescue Day 2011 on Sat 9th July, a fantastic “free” day (donations to Help for Heroes, the Air Ambulance and several emergency services charities). All the major emergency services hold “live” demonstrations to show what they do and how they do it; an action packed day!

Held at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle off J2 of the M180. Please see www.rescue day.com for more details.

Then there's the Hallamshire Meet's on Mon 18th July, our Noggin n Natter on Tues 19th July, and Julie n Steve's Anniversary Party on Sat 23rd July. Finally there's the Doncaster Classic Car & Bike Show held by the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster & Rotary Club, on Sun 24th July at Doncaster School for the Deaf, Leger Way (opposite the Racecourse) DN2 6AY. This event is well worth a trip out, with a wide range of classic cars, bikes and commercials and lots of family entertainment, including live Jazz music, autojumble, children's rides and a BBMF Lancaster flypast. Please see www.doncasterclassiccarshow.co.uk for booking forms and more details.

In August, our meeting's on Tues 2nd, Hallamshire's is on Mon 15th, our Noggin n Natter& Kidz Klub on Tues 16th, Stafford's on 19th-21st and our return trip to Brodsworth Hall on Sun 28th.

So quite a lot coming up again. Hope to see you soon! Paula x

    JUNE 2011

Half way through the year already and events in South Yorkshire are in full swing. Ian & Alice, John & Maggie and Dave & Sheila had a great time at the West Yorkshire Drive it Day to York National Railway Museum and the 2nd Hallamshire meet gave us a very enjoyable midweek break. The SY TSSC Kidz Klub was a resounding success with 8 kids, Mya, Rhianna, Tilly, Beth, Charlotte, James, Lewis, and Tia enjoying the Easter-themed activities, egg hunt and just chilling out together. Look out for another SY TSSC Kidz Klub in the summer holidays. An impromptu run out to the The Angel at Misson saw 11 of us enjoy a sunny afternoon chilling with friends amongst some fine classics.

May's meeting saw 20 of us in 11 Triumphs. In the evening sun, the car park was a splendid sight indeed! It was great to welcome back Lisa and Carl from the Hallamshire area, Andy & Dawn and Colin & Amanda. The music quiz went down well, with an intros round and questions ranging from the 1950s to present day. Congratulations to John and Maggie who won the bottle of wine and thanks to Kate and Spike for their help.

By the time you read this we'll have enjoyed Runswick Bay North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend and the Hallamshire Run to East Yorkshire Thoroughbred Classic Car Show at Sewerby Park nr Bridlington. I'll let you know how we get on next time.

                                           MAY 2011

Looking towards the early summer, we have lots planned. The NYTW at Runswick bay's website (www.nytw.org.uk)is now taking bookings for this iconic weekend on 13th-15th May. Please remember the camp site fees are extra, and they've finally launched their own website www.runswickbaycaravanandcampingpark.co.uk. The Hallamshire meet on Tues 17th May and their run to Sewerby Park Classic Car Show at Brid on Sunday 22nd May will give us an opportunity to complete this years 'tour' of the east coast.

June is also looking busy with the Dales Run 10th-12th June, the Robin Hood Rally 17th-19th June, Brodswoth Hall Classic Cars for Father's Day on Sun 19th June and the Derwent Valley Peak Run

24-26th June. I'm still awaiting confirmation of the date for this year's Hickleton Hall Garden Party & Classic Car Show.

Finally we're considering holding an auto jumble at one of our meetings later in the year, but first I need to be really sure some auto jumble will be brought along. Please start rummaging through your garages AND let me know if you are interested in bringing items along.

Finally, feel free to pop along to our meetings first and third Tuesdays from 8pm, at the Crown Inn, Barnburgh, Doncaster.

We enjoy complimentary snacks, quizzes and a good old Yorkshire natter. Hope to see you soon!

    APRIL 2011

Well, it's official – Spring is finally here – what a long winter we've had! While we've managed to keep ourselves busy in the South Yorkshire area, it'll be nice to get out and about and enjoy our cars, in the fresh air.

Maggie and Johns' Spice night was a great success. We knew we were in for a treat, having sampled her divine Bailey's Cheesecake, Maggie's delicious cooking, and John's impeccable hosting skills, ensured we all had a fabulous night.

9 of the guys,(Al, Lewis, Dunc, Shaun, Pete, Luke, Gareth, Tony and Richard) also enjoyed some brisk top down motoring to Stoneleigh, where they managed to secure some much needed parts.

By the time you read this we'll also have had the run out to Scarborough on the beautiful East coast, and also joined in the fun at the inaugural meeting of the new Hallamshire area.

Looking ahead, Pete and I will be heading down to the TSSC Spring Open Day on Sat 9th April and attending the AO Road-show and AGM on the Sunday. So if you'd like to join us or if there's anything you'd like me to discuss for you, please let me know.

We're also beginning to check out the camping gear ready for our first camp of the year at the North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend, Runswick Bay near Whitby 13th - 15th May. Usual format is Meet n Greet on Friday night, scenic run over the Moors during the day on Sat, live band and disco at night and informal concurs on the Sunday. Please get in touch if you'd like to join us. June is looking busy with the Hickleton Hall Sunday Garden Party (date TBC), Brodsworth Hall Classic Car's for Father's Day Sunday 19th June and the Derwent Rally Peak Run 24-26th June.

On the meeting front, March saw 13 of us take part in Pete's TV themed car quiz, (you call yourselves a car club)! The Thornton's choccies and mini bottle of wine was

commendably won by Miles, who left the other's, MILES behind (Sorry!)

We also discussed our local website as it's not up to date at present. All members in the DN and S postcodes, who've registered their email addresses with the TSSC, are currently sent the e-Tribune each month to keep them up to date. Please get in touch if you would like to receive it and also check out the TSSC website Area Organiser Blog for the latest news.

The Noggin n Natter at the Crown on Tuesday 19th April (during the Easter holidays) will also include the SY TSSC Kidz Klub. There'll be fun & activities to keep the younger generation entertained. Look out for other Kidz Klub date’s during the summer holidays.

We've also recently resurrected the Haywood & Bailey's

SY TSSC “Best Overall” Trophy. (last awarded between 1995-2006)

Previous winners include D. Bailey (Herald 1200 Coupe), M. Dixon (Vitesse), Richard. Briscoe (GT6 Mk 1), Pete Chapman (Triumph 2000) and Mick Sayles (Stag). Nominations are invited throughout the season and the “People's Choice Winner” will be announced at the September's meeting.

Finally it's worth noting that many of the members who enjoy the SY TSSC social scene are all relative new-comers to the TSSC- we've all forged out quite an active social life by starting out, somewhat tentatively in many cases, at our first meeting and just joining in the fun. So what are you waiting for? - We've all started somewhere- why don't you get yourselves along to the meetings, meet new friends and start enjoying the full benefits of your membership. (I'm not this bossy really !!)

    MAR 2011

    Hi  All

Just a quickie, I’m afraid this month (Where does time go?!!) Another great attendance at Feb’s meeting with 17 of us enjoying Alice n Ian’s TV advert themed quiz. Sheila notched up yet another victory for the girls, scooping the bottle of wine kindly donated by the quiz hosts. Victor & Vivien updated us on plans for the Club Christmas Dinner & Dance. (please see Courier and national website for more details). Maybe this would be a nice change from out local celebrations?  Please let me know what you think.

Onto events closer to home, Pete & Gareth will be heading off to Stoneleigh Spares Day on the 6th of March. Anyone who wishes to head on down with them, please get in touch. There has also been a few tweeks to the Club Calendar with the run out to Scarborough (and pub meal)  now planned for Sun 13th March, the Pie n Pea supper post-poned until later in the year and Runswick Bay NYTW confirmed for 13th-15th May.

Those wishing to come along, can join us on Monday 21st March, when we head off to support Julie and Adrian Hadfield at the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Hallamshire meeting.  This is to be held at  Dinnington Rugby Union Club, Lodge Lane, Dinnington, S25 2PB.      FEB 2011

Ok, I know I said last edition I would be stepping down as SY Area Organiser, and here I am again! Following the unprecedented messages of support and offers to stand in as deputy, I had a change of heart and decided to throw my hat into the ring again.

January's meeting was a sight indeed to behold- even on acold winter's night, 26 of us turned out to discuss the future of the area. It was also nice to welcome Adrian and Julie Hadfield, Lisa and Carl and Pip n Frank who treked some 3 hours to join us. The meeting turned out to be a very successful discussion on ways to reach out to the many SouthYorkshire members, who for one reason or another, don't come along to the meetings. Whilst I was elected AO for the SY area, Adrian and Julie received our full backing to establish another group in the South Yorkshire area, near Sheffield, to be called the Hallamshire Area. It is likely their meetings will be on the third Monday of the month. We foresee the two groups will be mutually beneficial and we look forward to a grand collaboration. We'll keep you posted on events as they unfold.

Reviewing last year's events has got me thinking – how do we top that?! Well we're starting off with a run to the coast to blow away the cobwebs on the 23nd Jan, and to warm up again, Maggie and John's Spice night is on for the 19th Feb. Then there's Stoneleigh on 6th March and a run out to Scarborough with a pub meal at the Providence in Yedingham on Sunday 13th March. Later in the year, plans are afoot to get involved with lots of other activities from rallies and classic car displays at some of our region's beautiful landmarks, to camping weekends. As ever there'll be plenty of food and loads of fun. So why not come along and see what you're missing out on?

    JAN 2011

Is it me, or do the years shorten the older you get?!

Last night saw the last of the SY TSSC events for 2010, the Christmas meal.

Many thanks to Alice and Ian's son Neil for driving the minibus through hill and dale in somewhat difficult conditions, due to the adverse weather conditions we've all been experiencing. Thanks also to Landlady Jackie who very kindly provided the wine to compliment the hearty Christmas fayre , and Maggie whose handmade Santa's boot favors were a thoughtful surprise. The Secret Santa also went down a storm with some last minute swapping of pressies, whilst the free prize draw saw Al win the Triumph T-shirt, Alice win the £10 M&S voucher and Sheila the Pink Fizz.

By the time you read this, we will have decided on our new AO for the 2011 season. Whoever takes on the role will be assured of the continued support of the whole crew After all, as 2010 demonstrated, we all reap the benefits of working together.

So on to early 2011- we look forward to Maggie and John's Spice night in February, the ladies spa day in March and the rescheduled Donnington track day in early spring (which was unfortunately canceled due to the snow). Watch this space and the e-Tribune for further events as they unfold!

Why don't you make 2011 the year you come along to join in the fun with your local TSSC? Our meetings are informal and friendly, we have quizzes, raffles and discuss everything and anything! You'll find a wealth of knowledge on all the Triumph range and we're always looking out for fresh input. We also have lots of ideas for getting out n about and enjoying our cars. (we're also not precious about whether it's modern or classic!) But remember, if you just want to sit in a corner and take it all in, there's no pressure to join in. So why not come along on the first and third Tuesdays from 8.00pm onwards at the Crown Inn, Ludwell Close, Barnburgh, Doncaster, DN5 7JQ . Tel 01709 89345, where you will be assured of a very warm welcome.
